SRHC Officers and Duties

General Board Member Responsibilities

Each individual board member is expected to:

  • Prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings

  • Embody the organization's mission, values, and culture

  • Determine or update the protocol, rules, and processes that govern SRHC

  • Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization

  • Respect the experiences of all who bring their voices and lived experiences into the boardroom and the organization

  • Assist in managing the organization's budget

Position Descriptions

President

The SRHC President supervises the Executive Committee, oversees all meetings, and serves as the leader of SRHC.

Primary Duties

  1. Serve as spokesperson for the Council

  2. Preside at the annual business meetings and events

  3. Preside at meetings of the Executive Committee, the Operating Board, and when meeting in Executive Conference

  4. Report on the business of the Council annually and at other times requested by the membership and Executive Committee

  5. Establish goals for the organization

  6. Appoint one or two conference chairpersons

  7. Appoint ad hoc committees as necessary to the business of the Council

  8. Continue to serve on the Executive Committee in the Roles of Immediate Past and Past Past-President

  9. Perform other duties as required in executing the business of the Council, its Constitution, and By-Laws

Vice-President

The Vice-President substitutes for the President as needed and collaborates with the President on any duties as assigned. The Vice-President shall succeed the president and serve as president at the end of the president’s appointment and upon the election of a successor to the office of vice president. The vice president may choose to serve as a conference chairperson for the Annual Conference. Serving as a conference chairperson is not compulsory.

Primary Duties

  • Conduct the business of the president in the President’s absence

  • Perform special tasks or projects as assigned by the President

Student Vice-President

The Student Vice-President serves as the primary liaison between the Executive Committee and the SRHC student membership.

Primary Duties

  • Serve as a liaison between the Executive Committee and student membership with current issues

  • Serve as a resource to regional honors students

  • Serve as the primary coordinator for social media content generation for SRHC

  • Serves as liaison with the Conference Chair to plan student event(s) at the SRHC annual conference

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Executive Secretary

The Executive Secretary will work closely with the President in the planning and coordination of meetings and maintain all records of SRHC.

Primary Duties

  1. The creation and timely distribution of agenda for Board meetings and General membership meetings

  2. Keeping and circulating minutes of the Council and Executive Committee

  3. Maintenance of a full contact list of board members including board member appointment dates, term of appointments

  4. Maintenance of a full contact list of SRHC membership and regional institutions

  5. Editing or properly discharging editing responsibility for all of the Council’s publications

  6. Maintaining archives of relevant conference and Council documents

  7. Overseeing the process of elections, including publicizing opportunities and recruiting candidates to stand for elections to offices and positions on the Executive Committee

Treasurer

Serving as custodian of the Council’s funds and securities and depositing in the name of the organization all monies or other valuable effects in such banks, trust companies, or other depositories as shall be approved from time to time by the Executive Committee.

Primary Duties

  1. Preparing and presenting an annual financial report to the organization, consisting of all financial transactions and related documentation

  2. Maintaining accurate membership and dues records

  3. Maintaining the Council’s tax-exempt status

  4. Publicizing, receiving applications for, and coordinating all matters pertaining to the Council’s student stipends

  5. Serving as host to the Council’s official headquarters

At-Large Board Members

Members at Large are members of the Executive Committee who act as additional voting members and have most of the same rights and powers other directors do. At-Large Members serve a three-year term. However, they do not fulfill any of the officer roles on the Board, nor are they tasked with the same duties.

Primary Duties

  • Ensure that the mission and vision of SRHC is considered in all decisions that affect the organization

  • Support fiscal and legal responsibility to the organization

  • Participate in the success of the organization by participating in the strategic direction and creation of policy and procedures for the organization
